I borrowed $84,230 for undergrad and graduate school (both federal and private loans). All of my debt is held by Sallie Mae. My most recent statement tells me that I will pay back $119,338, with my private loans at a 9.25% interest rate. As a first-generation college student, I made a decision at age 18 that will invariably prevent me from owning a home or starting a family anytime in the foreseeable future. I feel crushed under the weight of my student loans.
