I owe over $20,000 in student loans from grad school, at 6.8% interest. I have been job-hunting for a year and have only managed to land a very part-time contract position. I make $1,000/month and my rent is $800/month. You do the math. I can’t afford health insurance and ride my bike around San Francisco because I also can’t afford public transportation. I’m going to look into Food Stamps and Food Pantries for the first time in my life. I also can’t get my family any gifts for Christmas for the first time. I thought my 30s would be more stable than my 20s. I couldn’t have been more off in my assumptions.
Happy Holidays.
