Can't get a job with my degree.
I graduated last year with a degree in Medical Assisting. Since then, jobs that are posted require at least one year’s work experience in that field. How do I get the experience if I can’t get the job?? Needless to say, I have not be able to use my expensive college degree and have to work part-time caregiving for less than I would make at McDonald’s. I simply can’t make...

I graduated from Art Institute of Colorado in March 2008. At the time, I believe I had $113,000 in loans. However now, it is $144,000. 100% of my “education” was through loans - all through Sallie Mae.

Sallie Mae changed my status between semesters and...
While in school for 4 straight years Sallie Mae changed my status between semesters and capitalized my interest making a $60k loan balloon to $100k. Saying that my “status” changed. It didn’t I was in school and it should have been an in school deferment. That is on my private loans. That’s criminal.

Harvard Law was supposed to be the golden ticket
I wanted to be a lawyer my whole life, and not just a lawyer but a real mover and shaker…a representative of the people and a protector of their rights. So while my friends were out enjoying parties and their youth, I was working my butt off to bolster my transcripts and extra curriculars. I made my way into Cornell and graduated at the top of my class. My reward was my acceptance to...

Sallie Mae Sounds Like, But Is Not, A Nice...
It’s not really about the money for me, I don’t have any money. It’s more about the education I sought and did not get. My first day of college was 9/11, after which the atmosphere of the small New York liberal arts college that sold me the Sallie Mae loan suddenly degenerated to something other than educational. A political disagreement with a professor led him to deny me...

Classic Sallie Mae Negotiations
Options Sallie Mae has given me in order to pay my loan: 1. Borrow from friends and family - $60,000 + 18 percent interest by the way. 2. Take out another private loan and use it to pay the current private loan. 3. Fill out a bunch of applications for credit cards, and pay the loan with those. (My credit score is below 500 due to Sallie Mae - so I either can’t get a credit card / or can...

Warning about SL Consolidation through Justice...
Justice? I became disabled 15 years ago and filed bankruptcy due to the ensuing financial disaster, but student loan debt. could not be discharged. I was urged to consolidated my student loan debt through a ‘program’ offered by the Justice Dept: after 1o years of payments my remaining debt was to be discharged. I made payments for 5 years, but then started being hounded by Dept. of Ed...

Drowning and Sadly Dragging my Family Down with Me
I owe about $20,000 in student loans to sallie mae for my private loans and $20,000 for my federal loans, which come to find out have been sold to sallie mae also. After graduating I went to work in social services with a passion to help those who lived with far less than what I grew up with; I feel that everyone deserves the opportunity to have security. Unfortunately, in this country 1.) the...

The 99% Deserves Free Education and Healthcare
I am in my 60s and finally paying off my student loans, but it took decades. I’ve had thoughts of loan collectors deducting payments from my social security checks when I retire or standing over my grave with an I.O.U. In the late 60s I went to the University of Illinois to get a B.A. and tuition, fees and housing were affordable. I was also active in the vibrant political movements of the...

A Nurse's Regret
Today has been very challenging. I have roughly $90,000 in student loans, primarily private loans. I went to a private 4 year university and now 4 years after graduation I’m kicking myself in the rear. My mom really pushed me to go there but I should have listened to my father. I was under the impression getting an education from a renowned college would help you get somewhere or better...

Research Scientist Can't Pay Off $50,000, Screws...
After Highschool, I was determined to college and climb my way up into the middle class. Unfortunately, I was basically disowened by my parents when I told them I didn’t want to be Mormon or go on a mission, so I was left alone to try and pay for school. I worked 30-40 hours a week, even though that wasn’t allowed at the University. If you work more than 19h they’re required...
